Educational Program “French Language and Literature, English Language”

Within the specialty 035.055 Romance Languages and Literatures (Translation inclusive), the first – French Department of French Philology offers the educational programmes “French Language and Literature” and “French Language and Literature, English” for the bachelor’s degree. The efforts of the teaching staff of the department and other structural units ensure the training of highly qualified specialists capable of solving complex specialized tasks and practical
problems in the field of philology (linguistics, literary studies, translation) and education (pedagogy, psychology, methodology). The peculiarity of studying in the chosen speciality is the combination of general theoretical and specialized training with the development of research and teaching skills. In particular, students are offered in-depth study of two foreign languages, literature, and practicaltraining as a translator, teacher, and lecturer. Students undergo industrial (pedagogical) practice at higher education institutions, secondary education institutions, and training practice (linguistic/translation studies) at translation agencies and language course centers.

Education in the chosen speciality is provided by highly qualified teachers who have completed internships in European countries with the support of the French Embassy in Ukraine, teachers with translation experience. They actively use the latest methods/technologies: lecture-discussion, lecture-presentation (PowerPoint), lecture-exchange of information, poster presentation; interactive methods of communicative learning – brainstorming, pyramidal discussion, small group discussion, openwork saw, discursive text analysis, debates, projects. Students can take part in all-Ukrainian student competitions/ Olympiads in the fields of linguistics, literature, translation, and international educational projects. The educational programme provides students with the opportunity to implement the learning outcomes necessary for their future professional activities, and potential employershave the opportunity to assess their level of training. Students take an active part in the activities of the Paris-IF NGO, which promotes French culture and art in the city and region, in particular in the French Spring events held annually in the city with the support of the French Embassy in Ukraine.

The latest authentic textbooks published by Hachette (Alter ego, A1/B2), CLE International (Activités pour le cadre européen commune de référence A1/B2) and Didier (Génération, A1/A2, Le Nouvel Édito B1/B2) are used, which ensures mastering the latest teaching methods.

The organization of the study programme is in line with the
strategic direction, namely the improvement of the student-centered learning process to develop the necessary competencies in students that will ensure a high level of competitiveness and demand in the labor market.
